You will learn to break down the human head by using simple proportions and structure. We will go over values, skin tones, brush control and basic composition. We will draw and paint from a human skull, plaster busts, photos, and painting from the old masters. Every class will have an instructor demo and one on one attention.

This course will explore the expressive immediacy and rich depth of color that can be achieved using soft pastel, a unique medium where pure pigment is applied without the use of tools such as brushes or pallet knife. Emphasis will be on developing compositions from photographs, with subjects ranging from still life and landscape to portraits and the figure. This class will reinforce and build on the student's knowledge and skill in the use of color theory, principles of composition and design, and drawing and perspective.
