Did you know that art increases a child’s creative thinking, problem solving ability, and self-esteem? The Art Academy of San Diego is pleased to present art classes for children, ages 6 – 12. In a fun and supportive atmosphere, children will learn about master artists, such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, and Piet Mondrian, as they develop new art skills. Art projects will include drawing, painting, and three-dimensional design. All art lessons are created to meet the diverse needs of all students.

Acrylic Painting for Kids

Our approach into the world of acrylics will involve the learning of a wide range
of styles and traditions. We will explore various methods and experiment with examples of the master’s. Critiques will be used as a method to enhance individuality and inspire expression on all levels. Abstract and semi-representational elements will be encouraged. Unique opportunities will
present themselves and will build confidence in the young artists when students explore color, composition and technique The natural components of design will lend themselves towards the intuitive splendor of value and visual perception. Using the history of painting, we will create progressive works of art through the use of still lifes, photos and personally chosen subject matter.

KIDS SCULPTURE CLASS

Designed for all levels from beginner, intermediate, and to the experienced student, we will explore the fundamentals of 3D form to make both functional and sculptural objects. This class focuses on hand-building techniques with clay and other mixed media materials. Integrating the imagination with the everyday, we will make the ordinary extraordinary!

PRINTMAKING
Ages 6-11 & 12-15
Loretta Kramer
Learn basic relief printmaking skills as you carve your creative images into linoleum and wood blocks. Then learn how to ink and press your blocks in editions of 5 to 10. A monoprint is one of a kind rather than an edition of prints. Create beautiful colorful prints using painterly techniques and tools on plexiglass or on plates you construct. Build a collagraph plate and make prints of many different styles with it. Learn to use the printing press and about papers, inks and tools.
